Armenian soldiers shoot each other over stolen canned food
The Armenian Investigative Committee reported a case of theft and assault on a soldier in the country's army, which resulted in one serviceman being injured in the leg.
The incident occurred on December 4, 2022, when a soldier from G.X received a gunshot wound to the leg and was hospitalised, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"The investigation found out that Senior Lieutenant G.B, after learning about the theft of canned food intended for soldiers committed by privates G.X and G.P, along with junior sergeant A.M and privates A.M and K.A, beat one of them. Following that, G.P, who had also been beaten, got into a fight with G.X and shot him in the right leg.
Senior Lieutenant G.B, who was aware of the incident, did not notify management and attempted to conceal it. A criminal case has been filed against him under Article 549. (abuse of power with the use of violence that caused serious harm to human health). G.P. was charged with violating Criminal Code Articles 254 (abuse of power through the use of violence), 521 (violation of the statutory rules of military relations), and 166 (causing serious harm to human health). Junior Sergeant A.M. has been charged under Criminal Code Article 520 (use of violence against a subordinate or threat of its use).
The arrest was chosen as a preventive measure in the case of shooter G.P and officer G.B. The preliminary investigation is still ongoing," said the Investigative Committee in a statement.
