Türkiye's first home-made electric train enters service
The Turkish-made electric train will make its first journey on Saturday, 27 May.
The train with passengers will depart from Adapazari (Sakarya) station at 20.10 local time, Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu told Anadolu.
The minister recalled that the first domestic electric train produced by TÜRASAŞ (Türkiye Raylı Sistem Araçları Sanayii A.Ş.) was handed over to the national railway operator Türkiye State Railway (TCDD) during an official ceremony in Sakarya on April 27.
Karaismailoglu noted that the passengers of the electric train will be provided with comfortable conditions and will be offered tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
Referring to the characteristics of the electric train, the minister said that it is fully made using domestic capacities.
The locomotive can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, and depending on needs 3, 4, 5, or 6 cars can be hitched to the locomotive, and the number of seats is 324, he said.
The trains have a TSI certificate, which is required for operation in Türkiye and European Union countries, added Karaismailoglu.
The electric trains produced in Türkiye are equipped with Wi-Fi, kitchens, two cars for disabled people, and a mother-and-child room.
