NATO welcomes agreement between Armenia, Azerbaijan

NATO welcomes the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the 1991 Almaty declaration as the basis for border delimitation.

As Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated in his trip to the region NATO strongly supports the normalisation efforts,” Caliber.Az reports citing NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina’s message on X.  

Yerevan announced the agreement on individual sections of the border with Baku on April 19. They will stretch between the settlements of Baganis (Armenia) - Baganis Ayrim (Azerbaijan), Voskepar (Armenia) - Ashagi Askipara (Azerbaijan), Kirants (Armenia) - Kheyrimli (Azerbaijan) and Berkaber (Armenia) - Gizilhajili (Azerbaijan). The borders would be brought into line with the legally valid inter-republican border that existed within the Soviet Union at the moment of its collapse.
