Azerbaijani MFA expresses condolences to Ethiopia following tragic landslides

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has expressed its condolences to Ethiopia in light of the recent devastating landslides in the Gofa region.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of many losses resulted by several landslides in Gofa region, Ethiopia. We express condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ethiopia, and hope for the quick recovery of the people affected,” Caliber.Az reports citing the ministry’s message on social platform X.

The death toll from the two landslides in southern Ethiopia has risen to 229, with numbers expected to increase as search and rescue operations continue. The first landslide, triggered by heavy rain, occurred on the night of July 21 in the Gofa zone of the Southern Ethiopia regional state. A second landslide struck the following morning, engulfing those who had gathered to assist the initial victims.
