Armenia declines to comment following Azerbaijan’s concerns on EU partnership document
Armenian authorities have so far declined to comment on Azerbaijan’s reaction to the recently signed EU-Armenia strategic partnership document.
Thus, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan told journalists that he was not ready at this stage to respond to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s statement, emphasising that he did not want to provide an assessment without consulting colleagues, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He added that the Armenian Foreign Ministry would issue a formal comment in due course.
Simonyan also said he did not believe the document would slow the process of finalising a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “Work with Baku continues on all fronts,” he said.
The statement comes a day after the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry voiced concerns over the “Strategic Agenda for EU–Armenia Partnership” signed following the sixth EU-Armenia Partnership Council meeting in Brussels on December 2.
Baku criticised the document for prioritising issues it believes could conflict with the ongoing peace process with Armenia.
