Armenia investigates murder following Brazilian citizen's death at Zvartnots airport
A foreign citizen has recently died at Armenia’s Zvartnots International Airport.
Customs officers from the State Revenue Committee noticed a bottle in the hand of a passenger arriving from Brazil, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenia’s Graparak newspaper.
When questioned about the contents, the Brazilian replied it was wine. Instead of inspecting the bottle, the officers forced the Brazilian to drink its contents. Shortly afterward, he felt badly and died within minutes. It was later discovered that the bottle contained narcotics.
The Armenian Interior Ministry reported that on August 8, a call was received at Zvartnots Airport's police department about a foreign national who had been transported from the airport to a medical centre by an ambulance and subsequently died in the hospital. The case has been forwarded to the preliminary investigation agency. The Investigative Committee confirmed that the deceased was a Brazilian citizen.
An investigation has been initiated under Article 104, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which pertains to murder.
"An investigation is underway, a forensic medical examination and a forensic chemical analysis of the discovered substance will be arranged," Spokesman for the Armenian Investigative Committee Gor Abramyan said.
