Armenia opens criminal case against tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan
A public criminal case has been launched in Armenia against oligarch Gagik Tsarukyan, with prosecutors invoking Part 1 of Article 507 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which concerns failure to comply with a court ruling.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia announced the initiation of the case. As part of the proceedings, authorities have imposed a travel ban on Tsarukyan as a preventive measure.
Tsarukyan has been a prominent figure in Armenian politics since 2003. He is the founder and leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, which for many years has been among the country’s largest opposition forces. Although he temporarily stepped back from active political life, Tsarukyan declared in 2025 that he intends to take part in the 2026 parliamentary elections through the “Proposal for Armenia” platform.
In recent years, he has also been under investigation in Armenia in a separate case involving illegally acquired property.
