Unlike SERHAT, SERHAT-DUAL will be able to detect, track, and diagnose artillery munitions, missiles, and mini/micro UAVs in addition to detecting mortar attacks.
The versatility and practical deployment capability provided by SERHAT-DUAL may help Türkiye's C-RAM system, which will utilise weapon detection radar (STR) for artillery or missile systems. The 35mm ATOM ammunition may also need to be optimised for a system in which upgraded 35mm towed guns or mobile short-range KORKUT SAMs would operate jointly with SERHAT-DUAL and STR. Operational testing of C-RAM has already been conducted by integrating 35mm anti-aircraft guns with SERHAT radar following missile launches at Kilis from Syria.
As a reminder, the SERHAT mobile mortar detection radar system in service with the Turkish Armed Forces is a 360° all-round radar system that calculates suspected shot and mine impact locations by detecting and tracking mortar ammunition in line of sight. The system has a modular design and can be used on a tripod, on a tower/building, or on a lifting mast in a vehicle.
