Azerbaijan continues "Great Return" with new resettlement to Aghdam, Khojavand
Azerbaijan launched another phase of resettlement to the liberated cities of Aghdam and Khojavand on May 8 as part of the government’s “Great Return” programme.
According to Azerbaijani authorities, 41 families comprising 156 people were relocated to Aghdam, while 57 families, totaling 206 people, were resettled in Khojavand at this stage, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The relocation convoy has arrived in the city of Aghdam, and keys to the homes have been presented to the residents.
The key handover ceremony was attended by representatives of the Special Representative’s Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, as well as the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.
The resettlement programme is being carried out in line with directives issued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and forms part of broader reconstruction and redevelopment efforts across the liberated territories.
The returning residents are families who had been temporarily housed in various parts of Azerbaijan for years, mainly in dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings.
Residents taking part in the latest relocation expressed gratitude to President Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for state support and assistance provided during the resettlement process. They also thanked the Azerbaijani military for liberating their native lands and paid tribute to soldiers killed during the war.
