Azerbaijan, Inter-Parliamentary Union set to organize meeting linked to COP29 PHOTO
The Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan plans to organize, jointly with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a parliamentary meeting within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Baku in November this year.
Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova made the remarks, addressing a meeting with the teaching staff and students of the Belarusian State University (BSU) in Minsk, according to Report.
According to her, the initiative to hold the mentioned meeting within the framework of COP29 was put forward by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Having informed the event participants about the election of Azerbaijan as the host country of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the speaker noted that this is a recognition of Azerbaijan’s efforts in solving the problem of climate change not only at the national but also at the regional and global levels.
The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during COP28 in Dubay, the United Arab Emirates. Hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan highlights the importance of involving diverse regions in global climate discussions, particularly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This opportunity allows Azerbaijan to showcase its commitment to addressing climate change, enhancing its international standing in climate diplomacy.
