Azerbaijan, Iran discuss embassy attack in Tehran

Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev and İranian Deputy Prosecutor General for Security and Political Affairs Mehdi Amiri Esfahani exchanged views on the criminal cases being investigated in the relevant structures of Azerbaijan and Iran in connection with the terrorist act committed on January 27, 2023, against the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran.

The discussion was held on August 8, during the working visit to Azerbaijan of the Iranian delegation consisting of officials of foreign affairs and other relevant state structures, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the General Prosecutor's Office.

The prosecutor general stressed the necessity of a full and comprehensive investigation of the criminal case by the Iranian side, identification and bringing to responsibility of all its participants, as well as inaction shown by the law enforcement officers during the incident, verification of the reasons and circumstances of this terrorist act, imposition of punishment stipulated by law to all persons who committed and were connected with the crime.

In turn, Mehdi Amiri Esfahani expressed regret over the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy and expressed condolences to the Azerbaijani people and family members of the deceased.

He also gave detailed information on the progress of the investigation of the criminal case, noting that the investigation would be completed as soon as possible and a legal decision on the case would be ensured, and the guilty persons would receive the deserved punishment.

Besides, the Azerbaijani prosecutor general noted the positive impact of the interdepartmental activity of discussions held during meetings with senior officials of the prosecutor's office and justice bodies within the framework of his visit to Iran on August 30 in 2022 on the protection of the rights of citizens of both countries, legal assistance in border, customs, environmental, criminal cases, extradition, humanitarian and other issues.
