Azerbaijan jails Armenian spy for 18 years after shocking treason trial PHOTO
The trial of Igbal Abilov, accused of state treason, has concluded in Azerbaijan, resulting in a lengthy prison sentence.
The verdict was announced at the Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Hammad Nuriyev, Caliber.Az reports, referring to local media.
According to the investigation, Abilov had been living abroad and was acting under the direction of Armenian intelligence services. He was apprehended during a special operation carried out by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service.
The court found Abilov guilty of serious criminal charges under the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. These include Article 274 (state treason), Article 281.3 (public appeals against the state made on behalf of foreign organisations and their representatives), and Article 283.1 (actions aimed at inciting national hatred and enmity).
Based on the evidence presented during the trial, Abilov was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
