Azerbaijan notes growth in cargo shipment along TRACECA corridor

The volume of cargo transportation on the Azerbaijani section of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) rose by 22.65 per cent from January through August 2022, compared to the same period of 2021, and reached almost 33.3 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, cargo turnover on the TRACECA’s Azerbaijani segment increased by 30 per cent and exceeded 8.33 million tonnes/km, Report informs, citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.

In the reporting period, nearly 17.9 million tonnes or 53.7 per cent of cargo was transported by road, 11 million tonnes or 33 per cent - by rail, and more than 4.4 million tonnes or 13.3 per cent - by sea.

In addition, cargo shipment in transit along the corridor for the mentioned period amounted to 9.13 million tonnes, which makes up 27.4 per cent of the overall shipment volumes.
