Azerbaijan's foreign minister, Russian envoy discuss cooperation, regional peace agenda
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Pavel Knyazev, Russian Ambassador on Special Assignments discussed cooperation and the regional peace agenda on March 29.
The meeting centred on the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia, alongside addressing the prevailing regional circumstances, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov emphasized the positive impact of the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Russia on expanding cooperation across regional and international platforms. Both parties explored the prospects of collaboration on various international fronts, underlining the significance of mutual engagement.
One significant aspect of the discussion pertained to Azerbaijan's role in hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) later this year. Bayramov briefed the Russian ambassador on the ongoing negotiation process and preparatory efforts for the event.
Addressing the post-conflict scenario in the region, Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's endeavours toward peace and reconstruction. He underscored the challenges posed by external attempts to impose unilateral positions on the region, which could potentially impede the peace process.
Specifically, Bayramov expressed concerns regarding the forthcoming EU-Armenia-USA joint conference scheduled for April 5, emphasizing the need for transparency and inclusivity in such initiatives. He warned against actions that might fuel provocations in Armenia, where a revanchist sentiment prevails.
Despite the existing challenges, Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's unwavering determination to pursue activities aimed at ensuring regional peace and stability.
The meeting also facilitated an exchange of opinions on various other issues of mutual interest, further cementing the dialogue between Azerbaijan and Russia.
