Azerbaijan to showcase green initiatives at COP29 Focusing on transparency, Karabakh
Azerbaijan is poised to make a significant impact at the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change by presenting a comprehensive transparency report on its climate projects.
In an interview with Real TV, Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-Designate, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, emphasized the importance of transparency in climate initiatives, noting that participating countries will submit reports detailing their respective projects, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Azerbaijan aims to prepare and deliver its report ahead of COP29, showcasing its commitment to environmental responsibility, he noted.
In addition to the transparency report, Azerbaijan plans to unveil numerous green projects at the conference, with a significant focus on the Karabakh region. Babayev highlighted that these initiatives are not limited to Karabakh, as the country seeks to demonstrate its broader environmental efforts across various regions.
"COP29 presents a valuable opportunity for Azerbaijan to share its projects and commitments to sustainability," Babayev remarked, underscoring the nation's dedication to addressing climate change and fostering ecological development.
The Conference of the Parties (COP), is held annually, with the Presidency rotating between the five recognised UN regions.
This year, Azerbaijan has been selected as the Presidency of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), to be hosted in Baku this November. Azerbaijan has a strong track record of hosting international events and has chosen Baku Stadium as the venue for COP29.
To deliver a process that is transparent, impartial and inclusive, the COP29 Presidency has developed a plan based on two mutually reinforcing pillars to enhance ambition and enable action.
