Azerbaijan, Türkiye reinforce ties in key diplomatic meeting with new ambassador
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has welcomed Birol Akgün, the newly appointed Turkish Ambassador to the country, during a formal meeting where Akgün presented a copy of his credentials.
Minister Bayramov extended congratulations to Ambassador Akgün on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission, Caliber.Az reports per Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
The sides engaged in discussions centered on the long-standing Azerbaijani-Turkish alliance, as well as broader regional and international security issues.
Bayramov highlighted the unique and crucial nature of the friendly and brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, emphasizing that these relations play a significant role in strengthening the two countries' cooperation at both regional and international levels.
The discussions also covered the advancement of bilateral cooperation in key areas such as politics, trade, economics, energy, transport, communications, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. The importance of efforts to ensure stability in the Middle East and Afghanistan was also underscored, along with promoting joint initiatives in Syria.
Ambassador Akgün assured that he would spare no effort to further strengthen the already robust alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Birol Akgün as Türkiye’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan on January 11.
Prior to this appointment, Akgün served as the chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.
Cahit Bağçı, who served as Türkiye's ambassador to Azerbaijan since 2021, completed his diplomatic mission on December 14, 2024.
He was recently honoured with a letter of thanks for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
