Azerbaijani ombudswoman, Turkish officials discuss human rights protection in Gaziantep meetings PHOTO
The joint efforts are made to expand cooperation as part of the memorandum of understanding signed between Azerbaijan's Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudswoman) Sabina Aliyeva and the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Institution (TİHEK).
The efforts are also made to effectively exchange expertise in the field of human rights protection and freedoms, the ombudsman's press service told Caliber.Az.
A delegation led by the ombudswoman visited Gaziantep, Türkiye, at the invitation of TİHEK Chairman Muharrem Kılıç. The visit aimed to exchange accumulated experience in the field of national preventive mechanisms and further develop cooperation.
The delegation visited the Şehitkamil Open Correctional Facility in Gaziantep, as well as the temporary detention rooms at the Şehitkamil District Police Department.
They viewed the legislative innovations, the conditions created for detainees, the overall situation in the Correctional Facility, and the protection of prisoners' rights.
For her part, Aliyeva presented the work of Azerbaijan's regional ombudsman centres, which sparked significant interest. The parties exchanged views and experiences in their respective areas of activity and addressed each other's questions of interest.
During the visit, meetings were also held with Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Şahin, Şahinbey District Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoglu, Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber, and Chief Public Prosecutor of Gaziantep İsmail Karataş.
Additionally, a visit was made to the new TİHEK office in Gaziantep, the institution's first regional office, where a detailed report on its activities was presented.
