Baku consistently demonstrates success in handling large economic projects Russian expert on Caliber.Az
Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, has praised Azerbaijan's ability to implement large-scale economic projects.
"Azerbaijan is a country that, firstly, has repeatedly proved its ability to effectively implement all sorts of large economic projects, and secondly, its ability to enter into mutually beneficial relations around these projects will certainly remain an extremely important key partner," Lukyanov told Caliber.Az in an interview.
Talking about the ties between Russia and Azerbaijan, he said these relations are "undoubtedly on the rise."
"The two countries have always been very closely linked historically, culturally and economically. This connection has gone through extremely diverse periods. Azerbaijan is an important economic partner," he said.
According to him, Russia's transport route to the south will continue to develop, regardless of what happens—whether it involves relations with Europe or America, or the ongoing shifts in the Middle East.
Lukyanov noted the rapidly changing dynamics in the region, emphasizing the evolving positions of key players such as Iran and Israel. Despite these fluctuations, he argued that Russia's need to expand its transportation, economic, and logistical links to the south remains "an obvious requirement in light of the changing global landscape."
Amid these developments, the strategic importance of the South Caucasus, and particularly Azerbaijan, will only grow.
He concluded by praising the resilience of Russia-Azerbaijan relations, describing them as "an excellent example of how, bypassing all political obstacles, the needs of the people can still be implemented."
