Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, linked by a common historical and cultural legacy, continue to deepen their strategic partnership within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, with a clear focus on promoting peace, enhancing regional stability, and jointly countering the threat of extremism.
This message was delivered by Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Work with Religious Organisations, during his speech at the international conference “Maturidism — A Doctrine of Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment” held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Caliber.Az reported citing the State Committee.
In his address, Mammadov emphasised that in the face of mounting global challenges and the ongoing transformation of the world’s cultural landscape, advancing the values of peaceful coexistence, mutual tolerance, solidarity, and multiculturalism has become more crucial than ever. He called these principles essential pillars of a sustainable and secure world order.
Mammadov drew attention to the need for efforts that preserve national and spiritual heritage while fostering among younger generations an authentic and enlightened understanding of Islam and its evolving role in modern society.
Outlining Azerbaijan’s contributions to the development of Islamic civilisation, Mammadov noted the country’s unwavering dedication to protecting Islamic values and its leadership in spearheading international initiatives aimed at expanding intercultural and interfaith dialogue. Among these, he highlighted the Global Forum on Intercultural Dialogue and the Summit of World Religious Leaders, both hosted in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
He also spoke about the work of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, which was established by presidential decree, and underlined its vital mission in preparing highly qualified experts in religious studies and Islamic theology.
In conclusion, Ramin Mammadov expressed his strong belief that the conference in Samarkand would serve as an important platform for sharing authentic values, fostering interreligious understanding, and reinforcing global peace and sustainable stability.
