Baku, Tehran forge new path with joint transport committee
A new Joint Transport Committee between Iran and Azerbaijan is set to begin operations in the coming weeks.
Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, confirmed the announcement, Caliber.Az reports.
Sadegh explained that the aim of the committee is to expedite the implementation of joint transport projects, which will encompass rail, road, air, and sea transport.
The minister highlighted that discussions were held with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev during a bilateral commission meeting.
Further agreements were also made across several sectors, including trade, transport, energy, and the oil and gas industry.
Sadegh added that documents for new agreements in areas such as transport, customs, trade, port operations, and shipping will be prepared ahead of the visit of Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to Azerbaijan.
She emphasised that in recent years, Iran and Azerbaijan have successfully implemented several joint projects concerning transit and transport corridors and expressed confidence that this will mark a new phase in their bilateral relations.
