Azerbaijan, Malaysia move closer to visa-free travel agreement, says MP
Azerbaijan and Malaysia are working on the introduction of a visa-free regime, with progress on the issue expected in the coming months, according to MP Vugar Bayramov, head of the Azerbaijan-Malaysia interparliamentary friendship group in the Milli Majlis (parliament).
Speaking at a meeting of Azerbaijan’s tourism industry leaders, Bayramov said discussions held in Malaysia focused on expanding tourism ties between the two countries and simplifying visa procedures, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Malaysia has significant tourism potential. At present, citizens of that country require a visa to travel to Azerbaijan. Discussions have already taken place, and I believe a transition to a visa-free regime could become possible in the coming months, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already submitted the relevant memorandum,” Bayramov noted.
The lawmaker stressed that, alongside visa liberalisation, increasing the number of direct flights is essential to boosting tourist flows from Asian countries.
