Baku to sign key agreements on Southern Gas Corridor, green energy
A series of agreements are set to be signed in Baku as part of the meetings of the Advisory Councils on the Southern Gas Corridor and green energy.
The signing ceremony will be attended by representatives from the energy ministries of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, as well as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding between the energy ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, alongside the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Additionally, an Investment Agreement will be signed between the Azerbaijani government and Enerso Cəbrayıl for the Horizon Solar PV project, while another Investment Agreement will be concluded with Clean Energy Cəbrayıl for the Şəms Solar project.
A further agreement will be signed between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and Nobel Energy Limited for the construction of a 30 MW solar power plant in Nakhchivan.
Earlier today, Azərenerji signed an operational agreement with Türkiye’s electricity transmission company TEİAŞ to boost electricity exports from Nakhchivan to Türkiye.
To recall, the Southern Gas Corridor is a major $40 billion initiative designed to diversify Europe’s energy sources by transporting natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field. This infrastructure spans around 3,500 kilometres across seven countries and consists of several interconnected pipelines.
The Shah Deniz Stage 2 expansion increases gas production capacity by 16 billion cubic metres per year. The South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion extends through Azerbaijan and Georgia to support the additional supply.
The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline carries gas across Türkiye to connect with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline then delivers gas through Greece and Albania to Italy.
Launched in 2013, the corridor began supplying Europe with gas in December 2020, strengthening energy security and fostering economic development in transit nations.
