Erdoğan welcomes ceasefire, urges caution in war-torn region
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed cautious optimism over the recently announced ceasefire in the conflict that has engulfed the region since February 28, describing it as a welcome step toward ending widespread violence.
In a statement on social media, Erdoğan emphasised the importance of careful implementation, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
“We are pleased with the ceasefire announced last night in the war that has turned our region into a burning field since February 28. We hope that the fighting will cease completely on the ground, without providing opportunities for provocation and sabotage," he noted.
The president extended his gratitude to the countries and parties involved in facilitating the ceasefire, singling out Pakistan for its key role.
“We wholeheartedly congratulate all those involved in the process who contributed to the announcement of the ceasefire, first and foremost our friends and brothers from Pakistan,” he said.
Highlighting the urgent need for stability, Erdoğan called for peace and emphasised Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts.
"Our region has suffered too much from war, conflict, tension and oppression. It is our sincere wish that the region should find peace, stability and tranquillity as soon as possible. Türkiye will continue to promote the voice of peace in the region and the world,” he added.
