European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has expressed confidence that Azerbaijan and Armenia are on the verge of reaching a historic peace agreement, signaling a significant diplomatic breakthrough in the South Caucasus region.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the European Political Community summit, Kallas emphasized the EU's anticipation for the swift signing of a peace treaty between the two nations, underscoring the importance of an early resolution to the longstanding conflict, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"I think that signing a peace treaty as soon as possible is in the interests of all sides," Kallas stated, highlighting the urgency of formalizing the peace process. She further elaborated that both Baku and Yerevan are very close to finalizing terms, with diplomatic discussions progressing rapidly toward an agreement.
The peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which have been ongoing for months, are seen as a critical step toward stabilizing the region and ending decades of hostilities. The EU has played a pivotal role in facilitating these discussions, with Brussels offering its support to both sides in the search for a lasting resolution.
