Expert: Iran could avoid conflict with US by transferring uranium to Russia
Iran could remove the main pretext for potential US military aggression by transferring its entire stock of enriched uranium to Russia, thereby avoiding direct military confrontation, Iranian political analyst Ruhollah Modabber told TASS.
“Given that one of the US’s pretexts for a possible invasion of Iran involves IAEA reports and provocations by the Anglo-Saxon axis concerning 440 kilograms of enriched uranium in Iran, I propose that Tehran transfer 440 kilograms of its enriched uranium to Russia for safekeeping,” Modabber said.
He added that this would eliminate the US rationale for an invasion and allow Iran’s enriched uranium to be stored in the “most suitable location.”
Modabber also suggested that Tehran consider Russia as its primary intermediary for easing tensions with the United States.
On January 26, US President Donald Trump stated that a “massive fleet” is heading toward Iran. He expressed hope that Tehran would come to the negotiating table to reach a “fair and equal” deal involving a complete renunciation of nuclear weapons.
Trump recalled that the US carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites last June in an operation called “Midnight Hammer,” warning that the next strike “will be far worse” and urging that such a scenario be prevented.
