FSB detains Russian citizen accused of passing data to Ukraine
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported the detention of a Russian citizen accused of providing Ukraine with sensitive information about industrial and military facilities in the Ryazan region.
According to TASS, citing the FSB, the individual — a Russian national born in 1985 — was detained in the Ryazan region on suspicion of conducting intelligence activities in the interests of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Defence Ministry.
The FSB stated that the suspect independently initiated contact with a representative of Ukrainian intelligence and subsequently transmitted information about a range of targets. These reportedly included facilities linked to the Russian Defence Ministry, transport infrastructure, enterprises within the defence-industrial and fuel-energy sectors, as well as details concerning military personnel.
“Since 2025, I have been helping Ukraine in solving intelligence tasks. During the cooperation, I transmitted information regarding various significant facilities in the territory of the Ryazan and neighbouring regions,” the detainee said in a confession cited by the authorities. The information was reportedly sent to his handler via Telegram.
The FSB added that a criminal case has been opened under charges of “high treason” (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
