Georgia hands over murder suspect to Azerbaijan after international warrant
Georgia has handed over to Azerbaijan a man who had been wanted internationally, following a request from Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor's Office.
The extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Ramil Mammadov was approved by Georgian authorities in line with the 1993 Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, Mammadov, who was under investigation for an alleged crime, was suspected of committing a premeditated murder under Article 120.1 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.
Preliminary investigations were conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Khazar District in Baku, which led to the decision to charge Mammadov and issue an international arrest warrant.
On March 17, Mammadov was detained in Georgia and was transported to Azerbaijan under the escort of a special convoy from the Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service.
