Georgia to build high-speed roads to borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia
Georgia's Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has announced a tender for the construction of high-speed road sections connecting the country to Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The project includes the Rustavi-Red Bridge and Algeti-Sadakhlo road sections, which are crucial components of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The initiative will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Government of Georgia, with the EIB providing a loan of €250 million. Design work for the trunk road sections was conducted by a Dutch company, with financial support from the World Bank (WB).
The East-West Highway, also known as European Transit Road E-60, is one of Europe's major transit corridors, stretching from Brest, France, to Irkeshtam, Kyrgyzstan. In Georgia, the E-60 begins at the Azerbaijani border and extends to the Black Sea coast near Poti, continuing towards the Turkish border. This project aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade between Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
