Georgia to increase number of ministries following parliamentary approval
The Parliament of Georgia has approved amendments to 11 laws in the third and final reading, which foresee an increase in the number of ministries in the country’s government.
Currently, the Georgian government comprises 12 ministers and one State Minister, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to the adopted changes, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will be split into two separate agencies — the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Regional Development.
The Ministry of Infrastructure will be headed by Irakli Karseladze.
As for the Ministry of Regional Development, it will be led by former Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakhaber (Kakha) Bekaouri.
The final division of the ministries is expected to take place within three months following the adoption of the legislative package.
Amendments to Georgia’s state budget will also be introduced to determine the funding for the newly created ministries.
