Georgian Dream leader compares ex-president Zourabichvili to Hitler
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream party and leader of the parliamentary majority, said that, Salome Zourabichvili, the former president of Georgia, might compare herself to Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini.
"I cannot assess Salome Zourabichvili's psycho-emotional state. She might claim to be Mussolini or Hitler," he said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Responding to Zourabichvili's assertion that she is the only legitimate president of Georgia, Mdinaradze compared her actions, along with those of her supporters, to the behaviour of historical figures like Hitler and Mussolini.
"The actions of Zourabichvili and her supporters resemble those of Hitler and Mussolini," he noted, adding that he felt relieved Georgia had moved past what he referred to as "modelled realities."
He further emphasized that neither the former president nor any member of the opposition United National Movement party could alter this trajectory.
To recall, Salome Zourabichvili, whose presidential term ended last year, declared she still considers herself the legitimate president of Georgia. Speaking at a news briefing in Tbilisi on January 9, Zourabichvili announced her upcoming visit to Washington for US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration at the invitation of Republican Congressman Joe Wilson.
"I will have high-level meetings in Washington as the only legitimate president of Georgia," she asserted.
Her comments come as Georgia faces a political crisis. The ruling Georgian Dream party's candidate, Mikheil Kavelashvili, was recently elected president. However, opposition parties, disputing the October 26 parliamentary election results, allege widespread vote rigging, though no evidence has been presented.
Zourabichvili also rejected the election outcome, warning that Georgia is "on the verge of losing its statehood." She called for new parliamentary elections as "the only way to overcome this situation."
