Georgian MFA summons Czech envoy Due to remarks about Russia exports bypassing sanctions
Czech Ambassador to Tbilisi Petr Mikyska has been summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry over his statement about the export of Czech products allegedly supplied to Russia in the circumvention of sanctions.
"Czech Ambassador Petr Mikyska was summoned to the Foreign Ministry for explanations," Gazeta.Ru reports, citing the Georgian Foreign Ministry press service.
The ministry explained the reason for summoning the ambassador was his statement, circulated in the media, that part of the products coming from the Czech Republic to Georgia goes to Russia bypassing sanctions.
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili re-acquainted the Czech side with the steps Georgia is taking regarding the non-recognition of such facts and demanded from the ambassador a detailed explanation of the statement, which he called untrue and damaging both bilateral cooperation and Georgia's reputation.
In turn, Mikyska stated that his words were taken out of context and misinterpreted. During the meeting with Khvtisiashvili, the ambassador also confirmed that there are no questions about sanctions against Georgia.
