Georgian president faces demands for removal from power
In Georgia, there have been calls to strip the president of power.
The President of Georgia is perceived as indifferent to the country's fate, warranting her isolation from power, according to political scientist and editor-in-chief of GRUZINFORM, Arno Khidirbegishvili, during a press conference reported by Caliber.Az via Georgian media.
Khidirbegishvili compared the situation to US presidential candidate Trump’s view on Biden, suggesting that Biden should be removed from power because of his alleged indifference to the country's future. He argued that the same applies to the President of Georgia, who seems unconcerned about Georgia's future and might simply leave for France, wealthier than when she arrived at Saakashvili's invitation. Therefore, he believes she should be isolated from power.
Zurabishvili proposed that opposition parties sign the "Georgian Charter," which includes commitments to repeal laws that obstruct the country's European path after the parliamentary elections in October 2024 and to hold early elections.
The Georgian parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 26, will be conducted under a proportional system with a 5% threshold. Current polls indicate that two to five parties have a chance of entering parliament, with the Georgian Dream party leading by a significant margin and the United National Movement in second place. These elections will determine which party will have the authority to form the government and govern the country for the next four years.
