Georgian top lawmaker rebukes EU Commissioner over “selective concern”
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has strongly criticized European Commissioner Marta Kos, accusing her of disregarding the will of the Georgian electorate and favoring only those aligned with her agenda.
“For Marta Kos, the Georgian people are only those whom she pays,” Papuashvili said, responding to her recent call for the Georgian government to “listen to its people and follow their desire to become part of Europe,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Papuashvili firmly rejected the notion that the current government is acting against the will of its citizens. “As for the voice of the Georgian people, if it were possible, we would bring 1,107,000 voters to Ms Kos’ house so that she could hear their voices,” he said, referencing the significant support the ruling party received in recent elections.
He went on to criticize EU officials, including Kos, for what he described as selective concern. “Until Kos and other Brussels bureaucrats condemn the violent storming of the presidential palace on October 4, all such statements will be nothing more than hypocrisy,” Papuashvili added.
