Iran poised to execute around 100 accused of spying for Israel
Mass repressions may be underway in Iran following Israel’s July 21 strike on Evin Prison and the subsequent 12-day confrontation between the two countries.
Iranian authorities are planning to execute around 100 people accused of spying for Israel, Caliber.Az reports, citing UK media.
After 71 people, including prison guards, were killed in the strike on Evin, the Iranian government launched a campaign of repression against surviving inmates. Charges of espionage are being used as grounds for persecution and executions, the journalists note.
Human rights activists stress that many of those accused had previously been arrested for taking part in protests, and that evidence against them may have been fabricated or obtained under torture.
Particular attention is being drawn to the worsening conditions of female political prisoners who were transferred from Evin to the overcrowded and unsanitary Qarchak Prison, where they are deprived of basic rights and means of subsistence.
