Iran's nuclear programme in focus as Moscow welcomes Russia-China-Iran talks
Spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Esmail Baqaei has said that three-party consultations among Russia, China, and Iran on the Iranian nuclear programme are set to take place in Moscow on April 7–8.
The discussions will focus on key aspects of the nuclear issue, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Baqaei stated that the trilateral talks would provide an opportunity for the three countries to further engage on the nuclear topic and related matters.
“The consultations will address a range of issues concerning the nuclear file, the JCPOA, and the implementation of Resolution 2231,” Baqaei said, emphasising the ongoing diplomatic efforts among the three nations.
The JCPOA, a landmark agreement signed in 2015, aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the deal has faced significant challenges since the US withdrawal in 2018. The upcoming talks in Moscow will serve as another step in resolving the ongoing tensions and finding a path forward for the agreement’s revival and the broader security situation in the region. The three countries have previously held consultations on the issue, and this new round of talks is expected to continue efforts to maintain dialogue on the complex nuclear challenges surrounding Iran.
