Iranian president accuses US of enabling Israeli attacks
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has directly blamed the United States for enabling Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian soil, accusing Washington of violating international law by allowing such aggression to take place.
"America, contrary to all norms of international law, allows Israel to carry out aggression and attack our country," Pezeshkian said in a speech in the Iranian parliament on June 16, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
The president stressed that the Iranian people did not seek war, and reiterated that the Islamic Republic was not the initiator of the conflict. He said that Iran had been targeted through terror and violence but warned that such efforts would not break the resolve of the nation.
Pezeshkian also called for national unity, urging all Iranians to stand together, regardless of internal differences, emphasising that the country’s resistance was grounded in the defence of its legitimate rights.
Addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear policy, the president reiterated that the Islamic Republic is not pursuing nuclear weapons. He said the issue has no place in the country’s strategic agenda and reaffirmed that Iran's official stance remains aligned with the position of the Supreme Leader. He added that any deviation from this stance would be considered politically unacceptable within the Iranian system.
His remarks follow earlier statements by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that Washington had prior knowledge of Israel’s plans to launch strikes on Iran.
