Malaysia to get new Turkish-made “Yavuz” self-propelled howitzers VIDEO
Malaysia will be the first country which will purchase the all-new “Yavuz” self-propelled howitzers manufactured by the Turkish MKE AS defence company.
A delegation led by Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited the MKE AS plant, which also produces Boran self-propelled howitzers, as part of a visit to Türkiye on July 7, according to Anadolu Agency.
An agreement on the supply of Yavuz howitzers to Malaysia was reached following the visit.
Yavuz self-propelled howitzers with a barrel length of 52 mm, as well as Fırtına ("Storm") self-propelled howitzers, use 155 mm calibre ammunition.
The new Turkish-made howitzer on a 6x6 wheeled chassis has successfully passed all tests for compliance with NATO standards.
Bringing the howitzer into combat position takes a maximum of one minute while changing location - two minutes. The rate of fire is 4-6 rounds per minute at a distance of up to 40 kilometres. The crew of Yavuz self-propelled howitzers consists of five people. The maximum speed is 90 kilometres per hour.
Three types of ammunition can be used in the howitzer’s armament.
