Media: Russian aircraft drop over 130 bombs on own soil, occupied Ukraine in 2025
At least 130 air bombs have been “dropped” by Russian bombers on Russian territory and occupied areas of Ukraine since the beginning of 2025.
Another FAB-500 “malfunctioned” in occupied Debaltseve in the so-called “DPR” (the settlement of Luhansk) on Gorky Street, with no casualties, Caliber.Az reports, citing ASTRA, an independent Russian- and English-language online publication.
In total, the outlet says it has documented at least 130 air bombs (123 FABs – high-explosive aerial bombs and 7 UMPBs – universal inter-service gliding bombs) and three missiles that have fallen from Russian aircraft on Russian territory and occupied parts of Ukraine since early 2025.
In 2024, at least 165 FAB bombs fell on these territories.
As ASTRA previously reported, to counter Ukrainian air defence, the Russian military began outfitting Soviet-era FAB bombs with UMPK guidance kits.
After this upgrade, the bombs receive wings and satellite guidance, allowing launches from Russian territory.
However, due to system flaws, the bombs do not always reach their targets and end up falling on Russian soil.
Poor engineering, rushed assembly and weak navigation accuracy are frequently cited as the main causes of malfunctions.
As a result, a growing number of these bombs have fallen on Russian-controlled territory instead of their intended targets.
