Minister: Zangezur Corridor reflects shared political will of Azerbaijan, Türkiye PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has hailed the opening of the Zangezur Corridor as a key route for hydrocarbons and “green energy” from the Caspian region and Central Asia to Türkiye and global markets.
Speaking at the IV Azerbaijan–Türkiye Energy Forum in Izmir, Shahbazov said the corridor, alongside the Iğdır–Nakhchivan gas pipeline, reflects the shared political will of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The pipeline, he added, supports direct gas deliveries and allows for reverse flows due to increased capacity, creating a strategic gateway for bilateral energy partnership.
“The Zangezur Corridor strengthens ties with Türkiye and other Turkic states, positioning the region as a hub for energy, transport, and transit,” Shahbazov said.
He noted that President Ilham Aliyev expects the corridor to enhance both the Middle Corridor and the North–South Corridor, boost regional cooperation, and benefit neighbouring countries.
Azerbaijan has so far supplied more than 120 billion cubic metres of gas to Türkiye, including 35 billion cubic metres via the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
Shahbazov said over 50 billion cubic metres have reached Europe through TANAP to date, with 6.6 billion cubic metres delivered to Türkiye and 8.3 billion cubic metres to European markets in the first eight months of 2025 alone.
Shahbazov also highlighted the expanding export network, now covering 14 countries, including deliveries to the Middle East.
Under a 1.2 billion cubic metre annual plan via the Kilis pipeline, Azerbaijan has already shipped 60 million cubic metres to Syria, illustrating the growing energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
