MP: Why Armenia's military spending growing despite low incomes?
Azerbaijani MP, head of the parliament’s human rights committee, Zahid Oruj has questioned Armenia’s growing military budget against the backdrop of the country's low incomes.
He made the remarks at a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on Legal Policy and State Building, Defense, Security and Anticorruption, International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations, APA reports.
"In 2020, the funds allocated by Armenia for the military budget amounted to $669 million, in 2021 - $678 million, in 2022 - $754 million and finally in 2023 will amount to 1.2 billion dollars," Oruj detailed.
"What does this increase serve when they have announced that they have supposedly come to peace? Why are they doing this with low incomes? They are diverting funds to the military budget while cutting back on health care and education. What kind of operations will these weapons be used for in the future?" the lawmaker said.
