"No games with Azerbaijan": Community demands Armenia abandon 200-year hostility

13 April 2025 09:12

Chairman of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community, MP Aziz Alakbarli spoke about the realities of Western Azerbaijan in his speech at the panel “Parliamentary Diplomacy in Global Governance” held within the framework of the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Responding to the question, “When can a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan be signed?” posed to him after his speech, he said: “This conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not limited to the Karabakh war. It has a history of no less than 200 years. For 200 years, Armenians have carried out ethnic cleansing, genocide, and deportations against Azerbaijanis in this region.”

“The Karabakh war is only the latest link in this tragic policy. Therefore, for a sustainable and reliable peace agreement to be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenia must genuinely abandon its 200-year-long hostile policy toward Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis. Don't play games with Azerbaijan.

First, Armenia must renounce all territorial claims against Azerbaijan and amend its constitution accordingly. Second, it must recognize and ensure the right of return for our compatriots who were expelled from Western Azerbaijan—present-day Armenia—between 1987 and 1991, as an integral part of the Karabakh war. And not just in words, but in actions.”
