Official: Zangezur Corridor expected to boost agricultural exports from Nakhchivan
The opening of the Zangezur Corridor will create new opportunities for exporting agricultural products from Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov said on June 22.
Speaking at a meeting in the Sharur district dedicated to the implementation of the State Programme for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture for 2026–2030, the minister said the initiative includes both core measures targeting agricultural production and supporting steps such as legislative reforms, institutional changes, and digitalisation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
According to Mammadov, the programme places special emphasis on livestock development, crop production, and the introduction of modern irrigation systems.
He said one of the key objectives is to increase average yields of irrigated wheat nationwide to 5 tons per hectare and cotton production to 5 tons per hectare.
“The main goal of the programme is to obtain more and higher-quality products from each hectare with fewer resource costs,” the minister said.
Mammadov also noted that the meeting addressed the potential contribution of the Zangezur Corridor to the economic development of Nakhchivan, particularly through expanding production and processing capacities and opening new export markets for local agricultural products.
