OSCE PA begins formation of observer mission for Azerbaijan's snap parliamentary elections
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) has commenced preparations to establish an observer mission for Azerbaijan's parliamentary elections scheduled for September.
The assembly has received an invitation to monitor the elections but indicated it is early to determine the mission's composition, OSCE PA press service told local media, according to Caliber.Az.
"We have received an invitation to observe the upcoming elections and are in the initial stages of organization. Mission heads have not yet been appointed, and the number of observers will be decided closer to the registration deadline, typically a few weeks before election day," stated the parliamentary assembly.
The press service further announced plans for a press conference on election day, featuring participation from mission leaders.
On June 28, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to dissolve the 6th convocation of Milli Majlis and call for early parliamentary elections, set to take place on September 1, 2024.
