PM: Azerbaijan-Belarus partnership developing in all directions

05 May 2025 14:16

Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, has said that the Azerbaijani-Belarusian partnership is currently developing in all directions and is comprehensive.

He made the remarks during an expanded meeting in Baku on May 5 with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Turchin, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

During the expanded meeting, Asadov stated that the governments of Azerbaijan and Belarus are intensifying joint efforts in line with the instructions of their heads of state.

“We have agreed to intensify our joint efforts to implement the agreements signed through government channels and the instructions of our heads of state. We are pleased that you are in Azerbaijan today with such a high-level delegation. This once again confirms the importance Belarus attaches to the development of our relations. Azerbaijan is also interested in further deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with Belarus. Today, we held a very constructive discussion on the key issues of our joint activities. We have extensive practical cooperation, based on more than 170 documents. Thanks to the joint efforts of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Alexander Lukashenko, the Azerbaijan-Belarus partnership is currently developing in all directions and is comprehensive in nature,” said Ali Asadov.

“Clear evidence of this are the two visits of the President of Belarus to Azerbaijan in 2024, as well as bilateral meetings of the heads of state in third countries. During Alexander Lukashenko’s state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2024, the presidents outlined new areas for expanding cooperation. A package of important documents was signed to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as agriculture, customs, tourism, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses,” the Prime Minister noted.

Asadov recalled that he had visited Belarus on a working visit in June last year and on an official visit in October. He also noted that in 2024, the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Minsk under the co-chairmanship of the deputy prime ministers, and that the Roadmap for cooperation development for 2024–2025 had been updated to reflect the instructions of the heads of state.

Turchin said there is a strategic partnership between Belarus and Azerbaijan.

“I am not afraid of this word, because our partnership has stood the test of time, and the relations between our two leaders are a clear confirmation of this. The cornerstone of our relations is trade and economic cooperation, which covers a wide range of areas and is very intensive. Last year, our mutual trade turnover increased significantly, and this cannot but please,” Turchin emphasised.

Furthermore, Asadov said he will visit visit the liberated territories of Azerbaijan together with Turchin.

“Tomorrow we will visit the liberated territories of Karabakh - the village of Gizil Kangarli in the Aghdam region, where it is planned to build an agro-town,” the head of the Azerbaijani government noted.
