President: Azerbaijan demands coordinates but Armenia proposes to discuss principles
Armenian President Vahagn Khachatryan has said that the issue related to the Zangazur corridor allegedly was not being discussed by the Armenian side.
He made these remarks at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Russia, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
“This issue is not discussed during meetings and discussions with Russians and Europeans. We are discussing another issue. Azerbaijan says that it wants to create a land route with Nakhchivan. We said that we were not against this. You can use our transportation routes. Let's just think. How can we make it for Azerbaijan not to feel much inconvenience? That is, we will use the usual regime that we have - customs, and border regimes. Let's agree on simplifying these regimes within the internationally recognised international norms. These discussions were launched. A meeting of the tripartite commission was held,” the president said.
“There is another question. We say, let's discuss the principles. The Azerbaijanis want Armenia to give the coordinates, and where these coordinates will pass. Armenia says let's discuss the principles because after discussing the principles it will be much easier for us. Here we have options, this is not the only way,” the Armenian president said.
He noted that Azerbaijan insists on building a high-speed road from Baku to Nakhchivan, which will pass through Armenia’s Meghri town.
“We are ready to discuss this as well, but such a road can not be constructed today. We say that there is a road when we were driving from Sisian (Garakilse) to Yerevan, we reached Bichenek (a pass and a village in the Shahbuz district of Azerbaijan), approached Nakhchivan, and from there we were heading to Yeraskh (Arazdeyan). The road through Vayots Dzor (Boyuk Garakilse) was hardly used at that period. Now we are saying: let's temporarily use it. That is, go to Gorus, Angeghakot (Angalurd), and then to Bichenek. However, Bichenek's cold winter is a problem. This is what we have in mind, but no corridor program is discussed. Even this word is not discussed. The Russian side also supports this,” the president noted.
