President Levits: Azerbaijan Latvia's close economic partner PHOTO

Latvian President Egils Levits has said that Azerbaijan is a close partner of Latvia in the economic sphere, in particular in terms of diversification of energy resources.

He made the remarks during a round table with representatives of Latvian and Azerbaijani business circles in Baku on March 8, Trend reports.

"The supply of energy resources from Azerbaijan is in the interest of both Europe, including Latvia and the country itself. For Latvia, Azerbaijan is also an important trade partner. I am glad to see here today representatives of Latvian companies, businessmen who want to expand their business in Azerbaijan in various areas, such as smart cities, logistics. We are also interested in cooperation on green energy," he said.

Meanwhile, addressing the meeting, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPOMO) Yusif Abdullayev said that sixteen Latvian companies are currently operating in Azerbaijan, Report informs.

"The trade turnover between Latvia and Azerbaijan increased last year. Azerbaijan invested $166 million in Latvia," he said.

Abdullayev spoke about the opportunities for bilateral cooperation, highlighting in particular the Alat Free Economic Zone project.

"We will be glad to see the participation of Latvian companies in the restoration of Azerbaijani territories liberated as a result of the Patriotic War," he said.
