Pundit: Russia can “break the backbone” of Armenian statehood
Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants has said Russia can become a terrible enemy and “break the backbone” of Armenian statehood.
"Azerbaijan has its agenda, while we have fairy tales. Their agenda is very concrete, and Nikol Pashinyan with his speeches creates a collection of fairy tales: ‘peaceful region’, ‘crossroads of peace’, I don't know, he just likes such pictures and fairy tales," he said this in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
"In order to understand the most real solution in this case, first of all, we need to discuss a platform. The most realistic platform is a platform that takes into account the regional context. That is, this conflict should be resolved in a regional context. The Brussels platform itself is a dead platform. And naturally, Azerbaijan is moving towards regionalisation of this issue, but the Armenian government is stubbornly ignoring it.
I will say one thing, it may be very bold, but I believe that Russia and Turkey are the real guarantors of Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as a whole, as well as the guarantors of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Because these two states can create problems for us, and it is by talking to them that we can eliminate the problems. The rest is fairy tales.
As for the change of vector. In his interview with Petros Ghazaryan, Nikol Pashinyan did not change the vector, but, relying on the caresses and patting of the Europeans in Strasbourg, he went back and forth several times on Russia. This means that we are hostages of a leader with chaotic thinking and no stable political line, which may have very serious consequences for Armenia. Russia is not the best ally, but it can become a terrible enemy, so terrible that it can break the backbone of our statehood," the political scientist said.
