Putin watches "Vostok-2022" military drills
President of Russia Vladimir Putin watched the progress of the main stage of the “Vostok-2022” strategic command and staff exercises at the Sergeevsky training ground in Primorsky Krai on September 6.
Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov monitored the manoeuvres together with the president, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Kremlin’s press service.
The concept of the Vostok-2022 manoeuvers provides for various options for the actions of interspecific and coalition groupings of troops for ensuring the security of Russia and its allies in the zone of responsibility of the Eastern Military District.
The exercises are being held from September 1 to 7 with the practical development of defensive and offensive actions at seven training grounds of the East Military District: Burduny, Goryachiye Klyuchi, Knyaz-Volkonsky, Lagunnoye, Sergeevsky, Telemba, Uspenovsky, as well as in the waters and coastal zones of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
As part of the coalition forces, military contingents and observers from the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other states are practising joint actions, including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Syria, and Tajikistan.
In total, more than 50,000 military personnel, and more than 5,000 units of weapons and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats, and support vessels are involved in the combat training tasks.
