Restoration works in Karabakh: Zangilan’s sewage system nears completion VIDEO
The Azerbaijani State Water Resources Agency has provided an update on the ongoing restoration of the water supply systems in Karabakh and East Zangazur, damaged during the Armenian occupation.
Thus, the construction of a nine-kilometre sewage collector line in the city of Zangilan is now 83% complete, Caliber.Az reports.
Additionally, two water reservoirs, each with a capacity of 4,000 cubic metres, are being constructed, with reinforced concrete works currently underway.
Two additional water reservoirs, each holding 100 cubic metres, are also set to be built.
The project includes the installation of a one-kilometre storm drainage line to manage rainwater. Furthermore, plans are in place to drill nine sub-artesian wells and construct a pumping station.
Notably, nine reservoirs and 1,200 kilometres of irrigation canals were destroyed over the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories.
During the occupation, Armenia inflicted serious damage on Azerbaijan’s water infrastructure, polluted water sources, and used water resources as a form of political leverage. Despite Azerbaijan's repeated appeals to international organisations on these matters, they were ignored by the occupying state.
Efforts to rebuild water infrastructure in the liberated territories are now underway. In 2023, new drinking water and wastewater systems were launched in Lachin, and a new project commenced in Fuzuli.
Additionally, to enhance the resilience of Shusha’s drinking water supply, the Zarislichay pumping station and central reservoir have been completed.
