Russia accuses US, Europe of backing anti-establishment movements in CIS
Head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin has accused the US and its European allies of seeking to intensify support for anti-establishment movements in countries that are part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Speaking at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of CIS member states, Naryshkin claimed that Washington is engaged in consultations with its "traditional European partners" to bolster what he described as “anti-system forces” in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"The Americans are holding discussions with their traditional European partners about significantly increasing their support for anti-system forces in CIS countries," he said.
The European Commission has already begun developing funding programmes for pro-Western media and opposition activists in CIS countries.
At the same time, the EU, in coordination with the UK, plans to create programmes that outwardly lack any clear political agenda, but will nonetheless promote pro-Western narratives.
